Serad, Beck, Williams & Sweeny Connections

Ellen Ella Sweeny born 1845 in Darby, PA was the only surviving daughter of William Sweeny and his wife Katherine Roe.  Ellen Ella Sweeny married John W. Beck of Philadelphia on Dec13, 1861 by the Rev. William Urie of Chester, PA (source:  Delaware County Republican).

John Beck was born about 1841 in Pennsylvania and was a painter living with his young family in Chester, PA as per the 1870 US census.  John died sometime between the 1870 census and 1874 (source 1900 US census).  This couple had two children:  Charles Sweeny Beck and Ella E. Beck.

The widowed Ellen Ella Sweeny Beck married Terrell Williams in 1874 (source 1900 US census).  Terrell, as per the 1880 census, was a ship carpenter born 1849 in PA.  He and his wife had no surviving children.  Terrell and his wife are both buried in Chester Rural Cemetery.

Charles Sweeny Beck Born in 1863 lived his life in Chester and was a “Moulder” for a Steel Foundry.  He remained single and had no children.  (Sources:  US census records 1870-1920).  He is buried in Chester Rural Cemetery.

Ella E. Beck Born in 1866 lived most of her life in Chester, PA.  In 1886 she married William T. Serad who is born in 1862 in PA (source 1900 US census).  They had one child survive; William T. Serad, Jr.  Ella and her husband are buried in Chester Rural Cemetery.

William T. Serad, Jr. was born April 1888 in PA.  By 1910 (US census) he had been married since 1904 to Mary E. ?, was a cooper at a sugar refinery and lived in Philadelphia, PA.  By 1920 William & his wife had six children.  William is also buried in Chester Rural Cemetery.

Anna J. Serad  Was born 1905 in PA.
Catherine C. Serad Was born 1908 in PA.
William F. Serad Was born 1909 in PA.
Marie Serad  Was born 1913 in PA.
Sadie Serad  Was born 1916 in PA.
Samuel L. Serad  Was born 1917 in PA.

As per the 1930 US census William T., Jr. was widowed and Samuel, Sadie, William & Catherine were single and living with their father in Philadelphia. Samuel I found, later married, had children and died in 1947.

I am the granddaughter of Samuel Lewis Serad. He married Mary Pilitowski Serad in 1937. He died as a result of injuries sustained in the Pacific Theater when his ship was attacked by the Japanese. He had four children: Walter (1938-2010); William (1941-); Evelyn Serad Nichols (my mother, 1943-); and Louis (1947-2007).
